Since 2003, EGR has been curating a comprehensive league table of the largest and most influential operators in online gambling. Marking our 21st edition, this year’s Power 50 highlights the key industry players and how they are faring against their competitors.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve continued to see the US have a significant influence on the rankings. Highlighting how important the market has become, despite the difficulty some challenger brands have faced, is Flutter’s decision to switch its primary listing from London to New York – a move completed in May.

Meanwhile, consolidation has continued at pace, as the industry’s appetite for M&A is yet to show signs of waning. In September, Flutter announced agreements to acquire Snaitech from Playtech for €2.3bn and purchase a 56% stake in NSX Group, the company behind Brazilian operator Betnacional.

Shortly after, in October, Les Française des Jeux completed its €2.5bn acquisition of Kindred Group, with the combination of the two entities creating one of Europe’s top three gambling firms.

Market exits and consolidation in the industry have made way for six new entrants in this year’s rankings, while there has also been a significant reshuffling of those brands leading the pack.

Elsewhere, during the run-up to this year’s EGR Power 50, there were plenty of changes in the top jobs. Nils Andén was confirmed as permanent CEO of Kindred Group in February after holding the position on an interim basis for nine months. At Entain, Stella David had been keeping the chief exec seat warm after Jette Nygaard-Andersen departed at the end of 2023, but a formal replacement in seasoned industry professional Gavin Isaacs was announced in September. Superbet then broke the news founder Sacha Dragic would return as co-CEO to serve alongside Jimmy Maymann, who was named as sole CEO in January to replace former exec Johnny Hartnett. Then, days before the 2024 Power 50 write-up was finalised, Flutter announced its UK and Ireland CEO, Ian Brown, would step down at the end of 2024 as part of a restructuring of the operator’s International division. PokerStars CEO Kevin Harrington will take over the role in January 2025.

This year, we have published the rankings earlier than usual to ensure operators have more time to celebrate their achievements before the holidays and make plans to attend the EGR Power 50 Summit in April 2025. This means the reporting period to be considered for the rankings, including financials and the completion of any M&A, was capped at the end of H1 2024.

EGR has retained its established formula of judging each company by its global reach (regulated markets are given a higher weight), strategy and impact, market influence and leadership, and financial performance. For the latter criteria, we rely on the expertise of BDO to assist EGR with calculating the growth scores.

EGR would like to thank EveryMatrix for sponsoring this year’s Power 50, and BDO for helping us compile the rankings by crunching the most crucial numbers. BDO is one of the world’s largest accountancy and business advisory firms and is a leading service provider to the online gaming sector.
