US sports betting integrity association launches
Bet365, William Hill and bwin among delegate members of the Sports Wagering Integrity Monitoring Association
The Sports Wagering Integrity Monitoring Association (SWIMA) has officially launched, aiming to detect and discourage fraud and illegal activity in US sports betting.
The not-for-profit organisation, which is funded by sports betting operators, aims to collaborate with state and tribal regulators and law enforcement entities at all levels.
The 26-strong membership includes operators bet365, William Hill, bwin, The Stars Group, DraftKings, FanDuel and Kambi.
Modelled after its European counterpart ESSA, the SWIMA board of trustees includes Stephen Martino, senior vice president and chief compliance officer for MGM Resorts International and Jan Jones, executive vice president of public policy and corporate responsibility for Caesars.
SWIMA’s primary goal is to establish a multi-jurisdictional reporting system to protect the industry from fraud. It also aims to establish a safe and secure betting environment for consumers by identifying unusual betting activity and suspicious behaviour in sporting events.
George Rover, chief integrity officer for SWIMA, said: “We are eager and ready to assist all stakeholders involved in the sports betting market to ensure a safe and secure betting environment for consumers across the country.”
