Suzanna Shkreli appointed Michigan Lottery commissioner
Shkreli will serve as commissioner of lottery in State Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s cabinet from March 1

Suzanna Shkreli has been announced as the new commissioner of the Michigan Lottery by State Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
In her new role, Shkreli will help raise much needed funds for Michigan’s public schools.
Shkerli is set to take up her new role on 1 March, when she will take over from current commissioner of the lottery, Jessica Weare, who has accepted a new position within state government.
Since March 2023, Shkreli has been the director of juvenile justice reform at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
In her existing role, she oversees problems within the juvenile justice system and the execution of recommendations put forward by the Juvenile Justice Task Force.
Prior to this role, from January 2019 to March 2023, she worked as Michigan’s Children’s Ombudsman (renamed the Office of the Child Advocate in December 2023) and as the deputy legal counsel in the Executive Office of the Governor.
That position followed a two-year stint working as the assistant prosecuting attorney with Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
On becoming lottery commissioner, Shkreli said: “It is a tremendous honor to continue the longstanding work of the Michigan Lottery. I look forward to working closely with local vendors and retailers who are vital to the success of the program.
“Under Governor Whitmer’s leadership, Michigan Lottery continues to deliver record results for our children’s education across the state – with more than $1.3bn from the lottery going to schools last year. I’m thankful to Governor Whitmer for the opportunity to serve in this new role and I look forward to working with the entire lottery team to continue this success.”
