Job listing hints at Stake plotting Ontario market entry
Crypto-first gambling giant appears to be moving into the Canadian province as it recruits a country manager to enhance its presence in the market

Stake is looking to establish its presence in the Canadian market with the hire of a country manager based in Ontario.
A job posting shared on LinkedIn yesterday, 12 March, is seeking a professional to lead its gambling operations in the province.
In the job ad, Stake notes it is looking for someone to become the firm’s primary point of contact for all market stakeholders, including partners, local authorities, and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
The successful candidate will also manage relationships with local affiliates and work with providers to improve product localization for the Ontario market, ensuring alignment with local preferences and regulations.
Given this recruitment process, it seems likely that Stake may be considering applying for a license to operate in Ontario.
Ontario is a well-performing market and revenue figures released by the AGCO in January 2024 found that operators reported C$658m ($487.6m) in revenue for the three months from October 1 to December 31 2023.
Active player accounts hit 1.2 million in the same period and handle reached C$17.2bn.
Breaking this figure down by vertical, online casino accounted for C$13.7bn of total wagers and C$471m of gaming revenue.
Sports betting accounted for C$3.1bn of Ontario’s handle and C$171m of total revenue in the quarter.
Stake currently holds a license in Curaçao and has a white-label agreement with TGP Europe so that it can legally operate in the UK.
