Rhode Island legalizes mobile betting
State lottery says it expects to have an app up and running by November

Rhode Island has legalized mobile sports betting after governor Gina Raimondo signed bill S37 into law yesterday.
Mobile betting will be offered by the state lottery in partnership with local casino operator Twin River.
The state lottery said it expects to have an app up and running by November.
The state originally launched retail betting in November last year with IGT technology and William Hill pricing.
“Expanding to mobile gaming would provide a convenient option for those wishing to enjoy this form of entertainment, and open up the economic benefits beyond the walls of Twin River,” said Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, when filing the bill.
“I can envision a group of friends from out of state spending an evening out in a local establishment where they can both watch the game and place a wager.”
Governor Raimondo’s proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 projects $30m from sports betting, including $3m from mobile gambling.
All betting is taxed at 51%.
Rhode Island is the only New England state with sports betting currently.
