PokerStars fined $10k in New Jersey for taking college basketball bets

Operator accepted multiple bets on games between November 2018 and January 2019

PokerStars has been fined $10,000 by the New Jersey DGE for accepting prohibited bets on a college basketball game in November 2018.

The regulator filed a ruling for the fine this week which claimed PokerStars took two hundred and sixteen bets on an Eastern Michigan University Eagles and Rutgers University Scarlett Knights game.

The operator accepted a further prohibited wager in January on the Monmouth University Hawks versus University of Pennsylvania Quakers college basketball game.

PokerStars voided all wagers and refunded bettors before the events occurred.

The DGE said it had sent out a notice in early November warning against taking bets on college basketball games.

Last month GVC was fined $81,000 by the New Jersey regulator for self-exclusion failings via Borgata Casino’s online offering.
