PointsBet in Pennsylvania soft launch
Australian-headquartered operator to begin taking bets at Superbowl LVI this weekend

PointsBet has taken its first sports bets in Pennsylvania ahead of full launch at the NFL Superbowl LVI, taking place this weekend.
In an Australian Securities Exchange update, the US-facing sportsbook operator confirmed its locally based subsidiary had received authorisation to commence operations from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
The launch represents PointsBet’s 10th online sportsbook launch, following successful launches in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, and New York.
In accordance with the PGCB’s requirements, PointsBet will operate on a soft launch environment basis, where it will operate for three days before transitioning to a live footing.
“PointsBet launching in our 10th US jurisdiction represents a very proud moment for our company, and I am especially grateful to our technology and compliance teams for their ongoing dedication and commitment,” PointsBet group CEO and MD Sam Swanell said.
“The PointsBet team is excited to continue to prove our reputation and consistent ability to deliver a world-class experience,” Swanell added.
PointsBet recently gained an Ontario sports betting operating licence, with the firm on track to launch regulated sports betting operations on April 4.
Last month, PointsBet began operating in New York, becoming the sixth operator to be authorised by the New York State Gaming Commission.
