PointsBet adds Cheddar News veteran in content push
Liam Roecklein links up with US-facing sports betting firm in broadbase production role

PointsBet has appointed ex-Cheddar News SVP and general manager Liam Roecklein as its new senior vice president (SVP) of content.
A veteran of the content sector, Roecklein previously oversaw the live-streaming financial news network’s content, growth, programming, production, and branded teams.
He was Cheddar’s fifth employee, building the startup’s content prior to its sale to Altice USA in 2019.
Roecklein has also worked as an executive producer at US publishing house Time Inc. which counts titles such as Sports Illustrated and Time among its stable and digital video startup business Zazoom, working on its Major League Baseball coverage.
In his new role as SVP of content for Pointsbet, he will focus on original content generation under the guidance of US chief marketing officer (CMO) Kyle Christensen.
Roecklein will oversee PointsBet’s overall content strategy for digital, social and traditional media, working extensively with US media partners NBC Sports and its wider sports partnerships with the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and PGA Tour.
Speaking about the appointment, Christensen said the operator was “poised to do big things”, something which would be enhanced with the new hire.
“His proven track record of growing businesses using content as a staple for building communities can’t be understated,” Christensen said.
“This market is still so new to so many. We have a unique opportunity here to expand the sporting experience with our in-house technology and the NBC partnership, highlighting why PointsBet is the premier destination for bettors. Liam and his team will be at the center of this,” he added.
Roecklein’s appointment is the latest in a series of hires made by the Australia-headquartered operator as it looks to add expertise in several areas.
Recent appointments include IT industry veteran Mary-Beth Hosking as its new chief information officer (CIO) and content-facing VP hires in both the US-and Canada-facing divisions of the business.
In August, PointsBet hired SportCaller’s Paddy McDermott in a newly created VP role to lead its US-facing CRM and promotions arm.
