Pennsylvania bettors endure rough July as sportsbooks clean up
Keystone State operators notch 12.7% hold en route to $52.7m in monthly revenue despite a 10% decline in handle month-over-month

July marked a forgettable month for Pennsylvania sports bettors as operators cleaned up to the tune of $52.7m in gross revenue, according to new figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
Handle for the month amounted to $414.7m, equating to an eye-opening 12.7% statewide hold that doubled as the second-highest mark in Pennsylvania sports betting history.
The near-$53m in revenue represented a 22.6% surge from $43m in June despite handle decreasing 10.7% month-over-month (MOM), as the July hold percentage registered more than three percentage points higher than June’s 9.3% win rate.
Monthly handle was up 22.5% year-over-year (YOY) from $338.5m during the same period of 2023, while revenue saw a 33.8% YOY uptick from $39.4m last July.
After the deduction of $14.1m in promotional credits, adjusted gross revenue (AGR) came to $38.6m for the month, a 20.2% YOY increase. That gave way to $13.1m in tax payments back to the state.
Turning to operators, incumbent market leader FanDuel enjoyed a banner month even by its own standards, amassing $23.6m in gross revenue on $166.4m in handle for a massive 14.2% hold.
FanDuel also paced the market with $5.7m in promotional credits, leading to $17.9m in taxable revenue.
DraftKings continued to hold the second spot, generating $110.4m in handle and $12.8m in gross revenue while handing out $2.3m in promotions.
The podium was rounded out by BetMGM, which totaled $28.7m in handle and $1.9m in AGR after the deduction of $1.3m in promotional credits.
Of the $414.7m in total sports betting handle, $391.1m – or 94.6% – came via online wagers in July.
