PENN Entertainment unveils standalone theScore Casino app in Ontario
Operator looking to replicate success seen with independent Hollywood Casino app in the US with latest product rollout
PENN Entertainment has revealed its new standalone theScore Casino app in Ontario, as it looks to replicate the success seen by its Hollywood Casino app in the US.
The operator said the new app would run on the same proprietary tech that had been used for Hollywood Casino.
The Hollywood Casino app went live in Pennsylvania in December, before further debuts in Michigan and New Jersey.
The latest Eilers & Krejcik Gaming testing report placed the app as the second-best online casino app in the US.
Data from PENN’s latest earnings report also showed performance following the launch of the Hollywood Casino app far outstripped that of when it was only accessible via ESPN Bet.
In Pennsylvania, average weekly users grew 16% post-launch, while average weekly GGR was up 38%.
Alongside standard online slots, table games, and live casino content, theScore Casino will also feature in-house games from PENN Games Studios and branded games.
Those branded games include Blue Jays Blackjack, a title leveraging theScore Bet’s partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Customers will be able to log in to the new app using existing credentials across iOS, Android, and desktop.
Additionally, theScore Casino will remain accessible via theScore Bet app, similar to how Hollywood Casino can still be used via the ESPN Bet app in the US.
In the Canadian province of Ontario, theScore Bet has emerged as one of the leading operators as PENN was able to tap into its legacy media position.
PENN acquired theScore, including its media and gaming arms, in October 2021 in a $2bn cash-and-stock deal.
