Ontario’s Responsible Gambling Council CEO to retire in December 2024
Shelley White to step down from non-profit organization after almost eight years of service as recruitment process begins to source her replacement

Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) CEO Shelley White is set to retire at the end of the year after leading the body since February 2017.
A former YMCA general manager, White joined the RCG from social services organisation the United Way of Peel Region, where she served as CEO from September 2003.
The RGC, which was founded in 1983, is one of the key stakeholders in the Ontario gambling market attempting to reduce gambling-related harms and deliver educational programs in the province.
Speaking on her decision, White said it had been an “honor” to serve as the body’s CEO.
She said: “I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to work with such an outstanding board of directors, staff team, and stakeholders, over the years.
“Together we have advanced RGC’s vital mission, vision, and values. Today, RGC is a global leader that is having a profound impact on creating a responsible gambling ecosystem. I feel so fortunate to have been involved in this worthwhile, exciting, and fulfilling journey.
“There is so much more to do to advance safer gambling, prevention education, and player health and wellbeing within Canada and internationally.
“I highly recommend this important CEO role to humanitarian and entrepreneurial leaders who want to lead a dynamic, fast-paced social enterprise, as well as collaborate with a phenomenal team and group of stakeholders,” she added.
An RGC statement read: “The RGC staff and board of directors would like to congratulate Shelley White, our beloved CEO, on her upcoming retirement in December 2024.
“Shelley’s commitment to RGC and the people, organizations, and communities we serve globally is unparalleled. We will celebrate Shelley and the remarkable contribution she has made to RGC as her retirement date approaches.”
The RGC has commenced a search for White’s replacement, with a job advertisement requiring the new CEO to be a “passionate, visionary, and courageous business leader with a highly successful leadership track record in a diverse, multi-stakeholder environment.”
The new CEO will be responsible for implementing the RGC’s strategic plan through to 2029, while also leading on government and community communications.
