
Online dominates Maryland sports betting numbers in June as handle drops almost 21%
Free State operators rack up $18m in revenue with FanDuel and DraftKings leading the way


Maryland’s online and retail sports betting operators racked up a combined $254.5m in handle during June, down 20.5% from May, according to latest data from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA).
Releasing its latest data for the period, the MLGCA confirmed total June revenue of $18.9m, with online sportsbook revenue accounting for 95.8% of all bets placed in the month.
Handle collected by the online sector amounted to $243.8m in June, dwarfing that of the retail sector, which accounted for just $10.6m in handle over the same period.
Online operators paid $2.7m in taxes to the state in June, compared to just $91,241 by the retail market.
As in May, FanDuel continued its dominance of the Maryland online sports betting market, notching up $108.6m in handle and $10.8m in revenue throughout June.
The operator had a hold of 13.4% and deducted $3.6m in the form of promotional play plus other deductions from its taxable revenue total.
DraftKings, the next biggest operator in the state, racked up just $89.6m in handle and $5.6m in revenue during June. The Boston-based operator had a hold of 8.7% and deducted $2m in promotional play and other deductions from its taxable total.
Taking the bronze medal position during June was BetMGM with $20.8m in handle and $986,232 in revenue over the month, ahead of PointsBet, which notched up $2.3m in handle and $129,314 in revenue.
Fanatics Betting and Gaming, which is soon to take over PointsBet’s US operations, marked its first month as an online sportsbook operator in Maryland in June. The operator racked up just $1.6m in handle and made zero taxable revenue during the month, exempting $618,005 in promotional deductions.
SuperBook was also conspicuous during the month with a zero-revenue figure, racking up $442,469 in handle over the course of June.
Leading the way in the Maryland retail sportsbook market was the MGM National Harbor property, which took $3.6m in handle and $122,836 in revenue in June.
Live Casino! took the silver medal position, racking up $2.8m in handle and $161,119 in revenue over the month.
