
New York sports betting handle tops $19.6bn for the financial year
FanDuel leads the way in the Empire State, with the operator contributing over $8bn to the jurisdiction’s total handle for fiscal 2023-24


New York sports betting handle eclipsed $19.6bn for the financial year (FY) 2023, according to new figures released by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC).
This figure is based on bets wagered in the state from April 2023 to March 2024. The $19.6bn figure represents a 19.8% year-on-year (YOY) increase on the $16.4bn recorded in FY 2022.
DraftKings took the silver medal position in the Empire State, with just over $7bn wagered with the Boston-headquartered operator across the 12 months. There was some gap between second and third-placed operators in New York, with Caesars taking just over $2bn in handle while BetMGM took $1.3bn, the last of the four brands to make it over the $1bn mark.
In terms of major operators in New York, Rush Street Interactive was the best of the rest with $643.6m in handle for FY 2023, followed by Fanatics, which finalized its takeover of PointsBet US last week, that took $362m.
In terms of gross gaming revenue (GGR), sportsbooks in New York recorded $1.76bn in GGR across FY 2023, with the highest month in the period being January 2024, when GGR reached $211.5m.
Similar to the pattern for handle, FanDuel generated the highest GGR across the financial year at $845.8m. DraftKings came in second with $619.6m.
Caesars took the bronze medal position with $140.4m in GGR, with BetMGM and Rush Street Interactive rounding out the top five with $86.1m and $37.8, respectively.
Meanwhile, in terms of total monthly wagering figures for New York, March saw handle reach $1.85bn, representing a 3.53% increase on the $1.79bn posted in the same month a year prior.
However, the monthly GGR figure showed a decrease of 6.85%, from $162.8m in March 2023 to $151.7m in March 2024.
