New Hampshire governor passes betting bill into law
Lottery commission will establish a council for problem gambling to drive education and treatment in the state

New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu has signed the state’s betting bill into law, with up to 10 retail licences and five online and mobile licenses to be awarded.
Legalizing betting is expected to generate $225m in sales by 2021, with the first product to launch in July 2020.
Licenses will be awarded by the New Hampshire Lottery Commission via its new Division of Sports Wagering.
The commission will also be tasked with establishing a council for responsible gambling that will tackle gambling addiction through education, prevention and treatment.
The council will be led by addiction and mental health specialists and will be afforded $250,000 of funding a year.
A state-wide self-exclusion scheme will be established which all local operators will be required to integrate.
Mobile operators will also have to put in place daily, weekly, and monthly wagering limits for users.
Governor Sununu said: “We can do it with a lot of confidence because it’s being done responsibly, and it’s being done with an organization here at the lottery that just knows what they’re doing.”
