Louisiana becomes latest state to ban prop betting on college athletes
From August 1, prop bets on college players will be suspended in the Pelican State, following pressure from the NCAA

Louisiana is set to become the latest state to prohibit prop bets on college-level players after the state’s Gaming Control Board sanctioned a ban on the markets.
The ban will take effect on August 1, with the Louisiana Gaming Control Board confirming operators may honor outstanding bets up to that date.
The suspension comes after the NCAA pushed for college prop bets to be banned nationwide, citing the protection of players and sporting integrity.
NCAA president Charlie Baker called on all states to ban college prop bets last week, noting his concerns over the wellbeing of student-athletes.
Ronnie Johns, Louisiana Gaming Control Board chair, said: “Our staff began working on this weeks ago, well ahead of the NCAA’s call for action on college proposition bets.
“It is the intention of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board to protect the integrity of sports betting as well as the safety and integrity of college athletes.”
Louisiana joins Maryland, Ohio, and Vermont in prohibiting college player prop betting in recent months.
Representatives from Michigan and New Jersey have expressed a willingness to look into the issue and will discuss any concerns with the NCAA, while a North Carolina State Lottery Commission spokesperson said they would consider a prop ban if the NCAA requested it.
