Indiana sees dip in April sports betting figures
Hoosier State generates $360m in handle in first sub-$400m month since September

Indiana saw a dip in sports betting activity in April, generating just over $360m in handle to end a six-month run of at least $400m dating back to September 2021.
Coming off a big month in which the basketball-crazed Hoosier State totaled $476.8m in handle thanks largely to the March Madness basketball tournament, April’s figures were a sizable downtick but nonetheless represented a 52.3% year-over-year (YoY) increase from April 2021.
On the revenue side, Indiana totaled $28.7 in adjusted gross revenue, up 42.8% from $20.1m during the same period last year.
The revenue resulted in $2.7m in tax payments back to the state, pushing its total tax haul over the $10m mark for the year.
In terms of operators, FanDuel took the top spot for the second straight month, totaling $112.4m in online handle. The US market leader also led the way with $12.7m in revenue.
DraftKings was next with $97.4m in handle and $6.6m in revenue.
Basketball represented the biggest driver of betting activity, generating $129.2m in handle as both the Final Four of the NCAA tournament and start of the NBA playoffs fell in April.
Baseball was the second-most popular sport with $56.7m in handle – although Indiana’s gaming commission notably doesn’t itemize hockey, which is included under the “Other Sports” category that totaled $76.5m in handle for the month.
Parlays, meanwhile, continued to be prevalent throughout the gambling landscape, as 25.5% of all money wagered ($91.3m) came via parlay bets.
