Flutter the only gambling firm in TIME100 Most Influential Companies 2024 list

Flutter Entertainment has been named in TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024, as the only gambling company to make the list.

Listed under the ‘Pioneers’ section, Flutter was named alongside the likes of Epic Games, World Central Kitchen, and OpenAI.

Among its list of achievements, TIME highlighted Flutter forming the Responsible Online Gaming Association back in March alongside other companies as well as its incoming switch from its primary stock listing in London to New York.

However, TIME did note Flutter’s inclusion on the list comes amid the industry’s ongoing betting scandals in US sports and the increased scrutiny on gambling addiction.

TIME said: “A surging US market is bolstering what was already the world’s largest betting company. Flutter had 13.7 million monthly players as of March 31 and revenue grew 25% to $11.8bn in 2023, though it made a $1.2bn loss after tax.

“It’s the parent company of online-gaming powerhouse FanDuel, which, amid a sports-betting boom, has made and expanded deals with leagues including the NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLB, as well as teams.

A Flutter statement on the announcement read: “We are proud to have been included in TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024 in the ‘Pioneers’ section.“Being recognised in this list, among many other fantastic businesses, is a testament to the hard work and passion of everyone at Flutter and our portfolio of market leading brands across the world.“Following the completion of the transition of our primary listing to the New York Stock Exchange last week, we are excited for the next phase of our growth. We will continue to disrupt our sector, creating a better future for our customers, colleagues, and communities.”

To be considered for selection, entries were evaluated on several criteria including relevance, innovation, ambition, and success.

The timeframe for achievements for the 2024 list was April 1 2023 to May 15 2024, with those companies named on the list added to the TIME100 Companies community networking group.

TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024 is not ranked, instead all 100 companies that make the list are recognised as equal.

This year’s list was split into five sections, including the ‘Pioneers’ division Flutter was placed in.

The other branches included ‘Leaders’, which featured BMW, BlackRock, and Reddit, and ‘Disrupters’, including Dyson and Airbnb.

The final two groupings on Time’s list were ‘Innovators’, which included Google and Huawei, and ‘Titans’, with major firms such as Disney, TikTok, Microsoft, and Amazon making the list.

Back in March, FanDuel was the top-ranked gambling business by brand value by the Brand Finance.
