Ex-FanDuel director appointed head of government affairs at Betr
Andrew Winchell leaves operator after five years to join DFS app’s leadership team

Andrew Winchell has left his post as the director of regulatory affairs at FanDuel to take up a new position as the head of government affairs at Betr.
Winchell spent just over five years with the operator, first joining in January 2019, where he was in charge of a team responsible for working with regulators across the US. He also held the title director of government affairs.
Prior to his stint with FanDuel, Andrew spent nine years at the New York State Senate working with the chair of the Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee between August 2009 and December 2018, starting out as a legislative assistant and finishing as the chief of staff.
On his departure, Winchell said last month: “When I took the plunge and left the only professional workplace I had ever known (the NYS Capitol) I was filled with excitement and anxiety as I hit the ground running – quite literally – within my first week I was running around the Virginia capitol advocating for online sports betting. Looking back, I could not have made a better choice.
“From the embassy suites in San Juan (PR) to the Howard Johnson in Portland (ME) and from the Best Western in Biloxi (MS) to the Capitol Hotel in Hartford (CT). It has been the opportunity of a lifetime.
“I will treasure my experiences working to get states open for legal, regulated sports wagering, overseeing my current team managing our regulatory review, internal controls, and house rule/terms and conditions/privacy policy updates, and seeing FanDuel grow from one retail location (Meadowlands) and one online sportsbook state (NJ) to where it is today,” he added.
This new appointment aims to strengthen Betr’s internal government and regulatory affairs capabilities as the micro-betting operator looks to grow and continue to launch in new jurisdictions.
Betr founder Joey Levy announced the news on his social media channels, adding that he was thrilled with the new appointment.
He wrote on LinkedIn: “I am thrilled to welcome Andrew Winchell to the Betr senior leadership team as our head of government affairs. Andrew joins us from FanDuel, where he served as their director of regulatory affairs.
“Andrew brings a breadth of experience working closely with state regulators and political leaders on key issues pertaining to sports gaming and will meaningfully strengthen Betr’s internal government and regulatory affairs capabilities as we scale in size and launch in new jurisdictions.”
Winchell is the second hire for Betr in as many weeks, with former former DAZN exec Daniel Mass joining as the operator’s new head of media revenue, partnerships and strategy earlier this month.
