US basketball star to provide guidance on product and marketing after taking up equity interest

US basketball legend Michael Jordan has accepted a gig at DraftKings as special advisor to the operator’s board of directors.
The NBA hall of famer has agreed to take an equity interest in DraftKings in exchange for providing guidance and strategic advice to the board on key business decisions.
DraftKings went public in April following a $3.3bn tie-up with sports betting supplier SBTech and Diamond Eagle Acquisition Corp
According to the firm, former Chicago Bulls star Jordan will have a say on company strategy, product development, diversity, equity and belonging, marketing and other key initiatives.
“Michael Jordan is among the most important figures in sports and culture, who forever redefined the modern athlete and entrepreneur,” said DraftKings CEO Jason Robins.
“The strategic counsel and business acumen Michael brings to our board is invaluable, and I am excited to have him join our team,” he added.
Jordan’s appointment is effective immediately. He has previously invested in sports data provider Sportradar.
DraftKings share price increased by 16% following the announcement.
