
DraftKings extends Massachusetts handle lead in November as ESPN Bet comes to the fore
Boston-headquartered operator claims handle and revenue crown as overall online handle hits $636.8m


Massachusetts-licensed online and retail sportsbooks racked up sports betting handle of $654.4m in November, according to latest data from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC).
Online operators accounted for the bulk of this figure with $636.8m in handle compared to just $17.7m for Massachusetts retail sportsbooks.
Handle was up 14% on a month-on-month basis (MOM) from October, however revenue and tax collected figures decreased from the previous month.
Total Massachusetts operator revenue hit $48.9m in November, a figure down 17% MOM in October when the Commonwealth reported $59.1m in revenue. As a result, taxes collected by the state also fell, dropping from $11.6m in October to $9.7m in November.
As with the handle figures, online operators accounted for the bulk of total revenue with $48.5m in revenue compared to $370,189 for their three retail counterparts.
The state operated with a combined revenue hold percentage of 7.72% in November.

Looking into the online numbers, DraftKings extended its market leading position in the Commonwealth, notching up $319.9m in handle and $26.4m in revenue, with the Boston-headquartered operator accounting for just under 50% of the state’s overall handle.
The silver medal position in November was taken by FanDuel, which could only manage $181.5m in handle and $12.1m in revenue during the month; however this was still substantially clear of the next nearest placed operator, ESPN Bet.
PENN Entertainment-operated ESPN Bet edged out previous bronze medallist BetMGM, reporting $39m in handle and $5.7m revenue in November, compared to BetMGM’s $38.9m handle and $3m revenue over the same period.
Caesars Sportsbook racked up handle of $27.3m and revenue of just $335,536 in November, ahead of Fanatics at $15.8m handle/$690,298 revenue, and WynnBet at $13.8m for handle and $287,648 in revenue in November.

At a retail sports betting market level Plainridge Park Casino led the handle figures in November, notching up $7.7m in handle but just $13,713 in revenue.
Longtime retail market leader Encore Boston Harbor reported handle of $7m and revenue of $288,640 in November, ahead of MGM Springfield with $2.9m handle and $67,835 revenue.
