Chicago start-up launches betting social network to rival Twitter
Betsperts is in talks with operators to integrate the platform into the product to act as an acquisition tool

Three Chicago-based entrepreneurs have launched a social network for bettors that the founder hope will attract bettors from Twitter.
The new platform, dubbed Betsperts, allows users to document their picks and follow others in the community for tips.
Co-founder Reid Rooney said Betsperts was trying to bring bettors off Twitter and onto its platform where he believes it is much easier to search for specific profiles or picks.
“It’s a community of bettors and granular-level experts where you can get the support in areas you might not have,” Rooney said.
Users can be filtered by expertise, from ROI or streak, and all picks are public. The app also has a messaging function.
“We are in the process of [testing out] player props and a few other categories for sports and we’re going to continue to expand significantly but we need to do it piece by piece at this point,” Rooney added.
At present the in-house product only covers baseball, but Rooney said the start-up would soon be adding the NFL, MLS and European soccer to the platform.
The firm is currently in talks with a number of operators on possible partnership deals.
Reid said one such deal involves the platform being integrated into the operator’s product.
It is also considering potential affiliate deals that would see certain promotions and operators’ lines featured.
During March Madness, Betsperts drew in 12,000 new users and Reid said he expects the upcoming NFL season to attract up to 50,000 new global users.
