Caesars makes history as first live mobile sports betting operator in North Carolina
Partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians allows operator to launch 10 days ahead of competition in Tar Heel State

Caesars Entertainment has made history in North Carolina after becoming the first mobile operator to accept legalized sports wagers in the state.
The Caesars Sportsbook went live in the Tar Heel State on March 1 via a partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Mobile bets at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel, and surrounding Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians tribal lands are all now accepted on the Caesars Sportsbook app.
Caesars’ launch came 10 days ahead of the rest of the legal North Carolina online market.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission issued seven operator licenses last week, with the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel joined by Underdog and ESPN Bet.
Caesars was awarded a separate supplier license due to its ongoing relationship with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, allowing the brand to go live sooner.
Customers in North Carolina have been able to register, set up account, and make deposits as of noon on March 1.
On March 11, the online sports betting market in the state will fully open for competition, with Caesars able to expand its offering beyond the tribe’s resorts and lands.
Eric Hession, Caesars Digital president, said: “The Caesars Sportsbook app is the perfect complement to our in-person retail sportsbooks in Western North Carolina that so many sports fans have enjoyed for years.
“We’re thankful to be able to offer wagering at the Harrah’s Cherokee properties as part of our longstanding relationship with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and, with the sports calendar heating up, there is a lot to be excited about.
“Thank you to the National Indian Gaming Commission, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the North Carolina State Lottery Commission, and its Sports Betting Committee for making this day a possibility.”
Michell Hicks, principal chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, added: “Over the years, the partnership between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Caesars Entertainment has only flourished and strengthened.
“We eagerly anticipate the chance to introduce mobile sports betting to North Carolina, offering a fresh and new experience to all sports fans.”
