Ontario regulator confirms new CEO and registrar
Dr Karin Schnarr to assume role vacated by current CEO Tom Mungham in September

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has appointed Dr Karin Schnarr as its new CEO and registrar with effect from September 18.
An accomplished academic and executive with extensive experience in public and private sectors, Schnarr spent eight years as chief of staff for the government of Ontario.
In her role with the government, she guided the development of public policy, legislation, and regulations related to key government priorities. Recently, Schnarr served as chair of the Ontario Government’s Task Force on Women and the Economy.
She has also served as the chair of the board of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario and the vice-chair of the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board.
Taking to LinkedIn, Dr Schnarr said she was “honored” to be joining AGCO in the CEO and registrar role.
“[I’m] excited to be joining a strong and vibrant organization that works every day to ensure consumer protection, efficient business practices, and a people first focus,” she wrote.
“My sincere thanks to the board for this opportunity – I am aware of the large shoes I will be filling of retiring AGCO CEO Tom Mungham. [I’m] looking forward to taking on this role and can’t wait to get started,” Schnarr added.
Schnarr replaces long standing AGCO CEO Tom Mungham, whose retirement was announced by the Ontario regulator in March.
The appointment of Schnarr is the latest in a series of personnel changes at both the AGCO and Ontario’s conduct and management entity for online gambling, iGaming Ontario.
Last month, iGaming Ontario chair Dave Forestall swapped desks for the same role at AGCO, taking over from former AGCO chair Lalit Aggarwal, who stepped down from the role in July.
Forestall was replaced at iGaming Ontario by Heidi Reinhardt.
