Mohegan Sun and Presque Isle Downs awarded PA betting licenses
Mount Airy Casino Resort also eyes a betting license as Parx plots a June launch for its online offering
Mohegan Sun has been awarded its license to operate betting in Pennsylvania this week, making it the tenth license holder in the state.
The firm reported in its Q1 results last week that it would launch a local sportsbook at its Pocono venue in Q3, ahead of the next NFL season.
At a meeting of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), Parx Casino said it anticipated launching its online betting offering in June. If so, this will be the first online sportsbook to launch in the state.
Presque Isle Downs Casino also expects to launch its sportsbook soon after obtaining a license to offer the vertical.
The operator had initially elected to offer only online slots and table games back in September last year.
Mount Airy Casino Resort has also applied for a betting license in the state.
Licenses are granted on an individual basis, by game type at a cost of $4m, but operators can elect to pay a $10m discounted rate to obtain licenses in all three verticals.
The state reported betting revenues of $4.2m in April, down 24% on the previous month.
