Yggdrasil chief technology officer steps down after 16 months
Maciej Smolarek’s time leading tech team comes to an end, as he follows CPO Mark McGinley’s in leaving the company

Yggdrasil’s chief technology officer (CTO), Maciej Smolarek, has announced his departure from the firm.
Smolarek joined the supplier in January 2023 from Crimson Pine Games where he held the role of director of engineering for six months.
A slightly longer stint at Ten Square Games as head of internal tools from July 2021 to June 2022 was preceded by just under five years at Huuuge games in various roles from December 2016 to June 2021.
Prior to that, he spent between June 2012 and December 2016 as a programmer and software developer for several firms in Poland.
Taking to LinkedIn, Smolarek announced he was seeking a new mission and was looking for a senior managerial role as he confirmed his exit from the group.
He said: “After a challenging and amazing time in Yggdrasil, it’s time for me to go on a new mission. I’m looking for senior managerial roles in software engineering, I’m available very soon, and open to travel.
“Bringing a decade of experience in hands-on full-stack software engineering I also accumulated 12 years as a manager: leading, building and scaling high-performing engineering teams,” he added.
Smolarek’s departure comes a month after Yggdrasil’s chief product officer Mark McGinley left the supplier.
McGinley, who joined the business from Entain in May 2023, said he left to pursue opportunities that “align more closely with [his] core values and professional aspirations”.
