William Hill signs up for second running of the Racing League
Tweaked format sees regional teams competing across six race meetings on the Flat for a prize pot worth £2m

William Hill has been named as the official betting partner of horseracing’s 2022 Racing League.
The Leeds-based bookmaker has signed up for its second year as sponsor following a successful inaugural running of the competition in 2021.
The 2022 iteration will see seven teams comprising of trainers and jockeys representing regions of Great Britain competing over 42 races across six race meetings, with the event kicking off at Doncaster on 4 August and concluding at Newcastle on 15 September.
This year’s seven teams are Ireland, London and The South, Scotland, The East, The North, Wales and The West, and Yorkshire.
Each team consists of one exclusive jockey and a manager, with the latter responsible for team selection. The teams will have two runners in each race, resulting in 14-runner fields.
Last year’s Racing League attracted 12 non-regional teams, with one jockey per team and 36 races across six meetings.
Over £2m in prize money is up for grabs this time, including prizes for the top team and the jockey who accrues the most points for their finishing positions in each race.
Six races per meeting, featuring horses three years and over, will have £50,000 in prize money, with one two-year-old race awarding £25,000.
Liam McKee, director of media, sponsorship and UK creative at William Hill, said: “The innovative and unique concept of Racing League has always appealed to us at William Hill and, with the planned changes to the 2022 format, we’re really excited to be involved once again.”
Jeremy Wray, CEO of Racing League, added: “We took in a huge amount of feedback following the inaugural running of Racing League in 2021 and have been keen to add a number of innovations into this year’s competition.
“William Hill are, of course, well known and long-time supporters of racing in this country, and we are delighted to welcome them back,” he continued.
Team talkSPORT won the 2021 Racing League with 368.5 points ahead of Team eToro with 359.5 points.
888-owned William Hill makes The East 5/2 favourites to take the overall title, while Daniel Muscutt, riding for London and The South, is 8/1 to be crowned top jockey.
