Weekend Review: Sensational Super Sunday leaves punters reeling as Enable falters in France
Eight Ladbrokes punters backed a 6-1 away win for Spurs as majority of bettors get value for money in entertainment terms only
Another weekend of stunning Premier League results left punters shellshocked as the layers lapped up profits.
“Super Sunday” played host to a trio of results that surely only a time traveller could have predicted.
Aston Villa trounced Premier League champions Liverpool 7-2 as Tottenham dispatched Manchester United 6-1 away from home and West Ham continued their excellent form by brushing aside Leicester City 3-0.

Saturday also saw Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City fail to beat newly promoted Leeds United, with the game ending 1-1 in torrential rain.
Kindred Group’s Ali Gill said: “Sunday can only be described as bonkers! For a second weekend in a row accas were a thing of fantasy as Liverpool and Leicester joined Manchester City in failing to win.
“I don’t think there was a punter in the land who copped a correct score bet on Liverpool or Manchester United’s matches,” he added.
Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “City, United, Liverpool all dropping points was great, and as you can imagine no one backed that Villa result.”
Apati also noted that eight punters had backed Tottenham’s 6-1 victory before kick-off.

Betway’s Chad Yeomans told EGR how Tottenham’s 6-1 victory provided solace after the bookie’s First Goal Wins initiative paid out on Manchester United.
Yeomans said: “First Goal Wins meant that we paid out on Manchester United to win after just one minute, after Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot.
“It also meant that due to Tottenham’s turnaround from the second minute onwards, that we paid out on them when they actually won the game! The antidote is that luckily, no one has predicted the scoreline.”
Gill noted how the weekend wasn’t a total whitewash, with some scraps of salvation available to punters.
He said: “It wasn’t all doom and gloom for punters, as Villa v Liverpool had the goals many expected, just not at the right end, and Spurs were well backed against United. But, all told, this one went comfortably to the layers, although punters still got value for money entertainment wise.”
Elsewhere, in horseracing, the well-backed Enable could only finish sixth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in testing conditions.

The 2017 and 2018 winner of the race couldn’t muster the hat-trick, with Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Sottsass finishing first.
William Hill’s Rupert Adams said: “[With] Enable only managing to finish sixth in the Arc, you have a very bookmaker-friendly weekend.”
Yeomans added: “The wonder-mare Enable was well backed during the course of the day, but she could only manage a mid-field finish in this Arc and with plenty of other favourites getting turned over in France, it was a good day for the book.”
