Weekend Review: Hammers burst Liverpool’s bubble to leave layers on cloud nine
A 3-2 home win for David Moyes’ side combines with several draws to make it a highly successful weekend for the bookies
A series of draws and a stunning win for West Ham (16/5) over Liverpool (3/4) in East London ensured it was a Premier League weekend to remember for the layers.
In the final game before the last international break of the calendar year, West Ham showed their credentials as genuine top four contenders by defeating Liverpool 3-2 at a boisterous London Stadium.
A freak fourth-minute goal saw Pablo Fornals’ corner fumbled into his own net by Reds’ goalkeeper Alisson before Trent Alexander-Arnold curled home a stunning freekick to equalise before half-time.
However, West Ham would not be beaten and rushed into a 3-1 lead thanks to fantastic counter attacking move finished off by Fornals and a header from summer signing Kurt Zouma.
Substitute Divock Origi pulled one back for the visitors in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn’t enough as the Hammers jumped into third place.
Only one word for it…

Elsewhere, title challengers Chelsea (2/7) were held to a 1-1 home draw against Burnley (11/1), while the Antonio Conte era at Tottenham (6/5) got off to a stale start following a 0-0 draw away to Everton (12/5).
Betway’s Chad Yeomans said: “Four draws around the games over the weekend including Chelsea and Burnley, could only be topped by West Ham’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday in making it a good weekend for us.”
Kindred Group’s Ali Gill added: “It was a layers’ weekend in the Premier League as a swathe of results went our way.
“Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to West Ham, our best result of the weekend, was the perfect way to close out a weekend which included Chelsea drawing with Burnley, a 0-0 draw between Everton and Spurs and Leicester drawing with Leeds, all of which saw us finish very comfortably in the black.”
On Saturday, Manchester City (7/10) swept aside rivals Manchester United (15/4) 2-0 at Old Trafford with a scoreline that more than flattered Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side.
An own goal from Eric Bailly and a Bernardo Silva finish gave Guardiola’s men all three points as they dominated the derby from start to finish.

Betfred’s Alan Firkins said: “Fred stuck his neck out with City’s price in the Manchester derby, and courtesy of that 2-0 saunter we got absolutely caned. At least United didn’t score.”
Yeomans added: “City were well-backed and backers didn’t have a moments worry for any of the 90 minutes.”
At the bottom of the table, lowly Norwich (9/2) secured their first Premier League win of the season after beating fellow newly promoted side Brentford (3/5) 2-1 while Crystal Palace (13/10) continued their fine run of form with a 2-0 victory over Wolves (12/5).
In horseracing, it was a story of differing fortunes for Betway and Kindred Group in their sponsored meetings in the UK over the weekend.
At Aintree, 20/1 outsider Mac Tottie secured the win in the Betway Grand Sefton Chase for father and son duo Peter and James Bowen.

Yeomans said: “Elsewhere in sport, the Betway Grand Sefton Chase took place at Aintree on Saturday and victory for the Bowen family with Mac Tottie returning at 20/1 was of course a good result for us, as the well-supported favourite could only manage fifth.”
Kindred were not so fortunate in their sponsored meet, with the supported odds-on favourtie (4/5) Sceau Royal triumphing with an impressive performance over the smaller obstacles at Wincanton.
Gill noted: “In the Unibet Elite Hurdle at Wincanton, odds-on favourite Sceau Royal won easily in a relatively small field, that race going the way of the punters.”
Finally, Firkins detailed to EGR how one Betfred punter walked away with a six-figure pay out on an each way treble.
He said: “Talking of wins – a £10 each-way racing treble, taking prices of 80/1, 10/3, and 22/1. All flew home, and BOG meant that our customer picked up a cool £104,000. Very well played.”
