Weekend Review: England stalemate helps bookies as punters get stuck into Nations League
International football punters traded £2.1m on Betdaq during England’s 0-0 draw with Croatia on Friday night
Football bettors had to settle for a punt on the UEFA Nations League this weekend as the Premier League took time out for yet another international break.
England were in action on Friday night against Croatia where the atmosphere was as subdued as the performance – the behind-closed-doors clash ended 0-0, with Marcus Rashford squandering the best chance for Gareth Southgate’s side.

It was a great result for the layers though, with Kindred’s three best results of the weekend coming from 0-0 draws.
Kindred Group’s Ali Gill said: “As tends to be the case when the international break comes around, the margin this weekend on the football definitely moved in our favour.
“Netherlands v Germany just snuck in as our biggest event of the weekend, although Germany’s recent poor form meant punters saw their 3-0 defeat coming and took a small dent from us in that one.
“No surprise that the biggest three wins we had were 0-0 draws – Ireland v Denmark, Croatia v England and Romania v Serbia setting us well on our way to a winning weekend.”
BetVictor’s Charlie McCann said punters dropped down to the Football League in search of value and were rewarded with betting-friendly results in League One.
McCann said: “It was a great weekend for customers betting on the Football League on Saturday with all the good teams obliging and not one draw in any of the ten League One games.
“The best result of the day was, arguably, Gibraltar beating Armenia (1/14) in the Nations League with the hosts in a number of multiple bets and accumulators.”
It was a similar story on the Betdaq exchange where Eamon Moran said £2.1m was traded on the UEFA Nations League fixtures over the weekend.
“The reduced programme meant football punters had to focus on the UEFA Nations League fixtures, where £2.1m was traded on Europe’s national teams.
“England v Croatia was the most popular, pulling in approximately a quarter of that. Of those looking for opportunities in the domestic games, Barnsley against Luton was the top draw.”
With no Premier League fixtures, the main action on the Betdaq exchange this weekend was racing-related.
Moran added: “Frankie Dettori’s hot streak continued with success on the impressive Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket following wins in the Arc and Cambridgeshire.
“The meeting drew almost £5m in bets and York was a hit too, with £3.6m turned over on the exchange.”
