Weekend Review: Derby draws fail to prevent losing weekend for the layers
The layers lose out despite bookie-friendly results in the first and final Premier League matches of the weekend
Bookmaker-friendly results in the first and final Premier League matches this weekend could not prevent heavy losses for the layers.
The North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal kicked things off with a 1-1 draw, while the late game on Sunday was goalless as Everton and Liverpool drew 0-0 in the Merseyside derby.
But El Clasico in Spain an other results around the UK more than offset those victories.

Bet365’s Steve Freeth summed the weekend up: “The Premier League started and finished well – it was just the stuff in between that wasn’t very good – a losing weekend in the end,” he said.
Kindred Group also experienced a tough few days as they finished on the losing side in eight of 10 top-flight matches.
The operator’s Ali Gill told EGR Intel: “The saving grace was that the two we won in were the biggest two events of the weekend, the derbies, both of which saw us ahead with the Merseyside derby unsurprisingly the pick of the results for us, as 0-0 almost always is.
“Unfortunately though Man Utd’s late winner against Southampton saw us give away a huge chunk and we were never able to climb out of the hole after that.
“In Europe, Barca’s second Classico win in a short time was by miles our biggest event of the weekend and another one in which the punters came out ahead by some way,” he added.

It was a similar story at Betway, where Alan Alger hailed a goalless draw on Merseyside as the perfect result.
“Draws in big games are always welcome and we had two of the biggest weekend Premier League games go our way,” said Alger.
“The added bonus was that both came in under 2.5 goals, including one as goalless. Outside of the derbies, most results went the way of the favourite, so we didn’t have it all our own way,” he added.
Horseracing turnover was quiet as punters and the sport gear up for Cheltenham.
