Weekend Review: Bookies profit from David De Gea masterclass
The layers welcomed the Premier League back with open arms after West Ham’s win over Arsenal and United’s victory at Spurs
The results of both the first and final match in the Premier League this weekend were more than enough to ensure a healthy margin for the bookmakers.
Mid-table West Ham produced the shock of the round in Saturday’s early kick-off, beating Arsenal 1-0 at the London Stadium.
Then in the Super Sunday finale, in-form Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur by the same scoreline at Wembley Stadium, prolonging Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s fine run of form as interim boss.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “The first and last live games in the Premier League were great for us with West Ham beating Arsenal and Manchester United beating Tottenham.
“Although both winning teams were reasonably well-backed, the key thing is that most punters thought those two games would feature lots of goals.
“The Premier League had been averaging a high number of goals but was due to come back closer to the usual average and that correction looks to have caught punters on the hop this week.”
It was a similar story for Kindred Group, where Ali Gill revealed the operator came out on top in eight of the nine top-flight matches, with Manchester City still to host Wolves this evening.
“It was an almost perfect weekend for Kindred in the Premier League as we won in 8 out of the 9 games played so far, with only Burnley’s win over Fulham going the punters way,” said Gill.
“Our two biggest turnover events of the weekend were also our two biggest winning events, as Manchester United’s win to nil away at Spurs and West Ham’s low-scoring win over Arsenal left us with healthy profits and happy traders.”
Bet365’s Steve Freeth had Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to thank after the Spaniard produced a stunning individual performance including 11 saves to deny Tottenham a goal.

Bet365’s Steve Freeth: “I think Manchester United in their current form were a tempting price (14/5) for many, and it would’ve been a lot worse had they left with all three points with Spurs being on the scoresheet as well.
“Saturday’s Premier League fixtures didn’t look the most glamourous on paper, but we started off well with West Ham beating Arsenal.
“Liverpool’s low-scoring victory on the south coast wasn’t that bad, while victories on the road for both Watford and Southampton were also favourable,” he added.
