Weekend Review: Bookies lament football “horror show”
Kindred rues “terrible” weekend of football as a BetVictor punter lands £10,000 on a cross-sport nine-fold acca
The bookies took a rare battering in the Premier League this weekend as the favourites in the football fixtures got the job done with a glut of goals.
Champions Manchester City destroyed Southampton 6-1 yesterday after their city rivals Manchester United beat Bournemouth on Saturday, with Marcus Rashford netting an injury time winner.
Rashford’s 92nd minute strike saw Jose Mourinho’s side come back from 1-0 down to win the match, and from that moment, BetVictor’s Charlie McCann knew the writing was on the wall for the layers.

Indeed, the only respite for the bookies came as a result of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with fellow top-four challengers Liverpool at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
McCann said: “It was a terrific weekend for football punters in the Premier League with Liverpool’s draw at the Emirates the only saving grace.
“We sensed it could be a long weekend when United scored a late winner at the Vitality Stadium and there were just too many goals from a layer’s perspective.”
One BetVictor punter managed to scoop £10,000 from a £4.01, nine-fold accumulator, after successfully predicting seven winning football teams across the top four English leagues, as well as the winners of both golf events in Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau.
William Hill had a similarly miserable weekend according to Rupert Adams. He said: “It was a horror show for the bookies, with hardly a result on our side on both Saturday and Sunday.
“Only West Brom failed to deliver for the punters over the weekend, and almost all the favourites won and both teams scored so it was definitely one to forget.”
Kindred Group suffered losses on seven of the nine matches in the Premier League this weekend, with Huddersfield hosting Fulham this evening.
The operator’s Ali Gill said: “It was a terrible weekend for us and we took a battering in the Premier League.
“Seven of the nine games left us in the red, with Spurs’ high scoring win over Wolves hitting comfortably the hardest.
“Manchester United’s late win, Leicester’s emotional win and Everton’s defeat of Brighton all left healthy dents in the balance.

“The only saving grace was Alexander Lacazette’s equaliser against Liverpool, taking a few accas with it as the match ended in a draw, although the draw wasn’t without support in singles and accas too.”
Away from football, Ladbrokes all suffered losses in the horse racing. The firm’s Alex Apati told EGR: “Plenty backed Enable for Breeders Cup glory as you can imagine, so we’ve had better weekends as far as that’s concerned!”
