UKGC targets significantly improved customer protection with ‘single customer view’ meetings
Neil McArthur claims single interface could “significantly improve” customer protection

The Gambling Commission (UKGC) has held two operator-led events focusing on the development of a ‘single customer view’ interface system for UK gambling accounts.
Over 100 individuals from the gambling and tech industries participated in the twin events held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
A total of 12 operators were represented including 888, bet365, Betfred, GVC, Sky Bet and William Hill, with the event being supported by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC).
Representatives from the Information Commissioner’s Office also attended the events.
Neil McArthur, CEO of the Gambling Commission, said the UKGC recognised that keeping players safe in an environment where operators only have a partial view of customer behaviour was challenging.
“That is why we are bringing together experts from outside and within the gambling industry to explore how technology could create a single customer view, as it has the potential to significantly improve customer protection.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what is possible. We are constantly looking for opportunities to reduce gambling-related harm and there is always more to be done.
“Using technology to facilitate a single view of consumer activity is one of a range of actions we are pursuing to make gambling safer,” McArthur added.
In January, the UKGC announced the creation of three operator-led responsible gambling working groups focusing on advertising technology, VIP inducements to gamble and to produce an effective industry-wide code for product design.
Operators working within the groups include GVC, Scientific Games, Playtech and Sky Betting and Gaming.
