UKGC data reveals online GGY dropped 8% from June to July 2021
Sports betting slips 19% while esports and poker recover from previous decline

UK online gambling operators posted a collective 8% month-on-month fall in total gross gambling yield (GGY) from June 2021 to July 2021, according to the latest data from the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
UK licensed gambling operators recorded a total GGY of £456.5m in July compared to the £496m posted in June.
Sports betting still accounted for the largest proportion of the total GGY (£196.9m) but fell by 19% on a month-on-month basis.
Elsewhere, slots-based GGY increased 4% month-on-month to reach £187.2m while casino GGY decreased by 2% from £59m to £57.7m.
Virtuals GGY grew 2% month-on-month from £5.9m to £6m while esports GGY leapt 17% from £1m to £1.2m. Poker GGY increased by 3% from £5.8m to £6m.
The total number of active players in the UK remained flat at 11.4 million from June to July.
In a statement accompanying the latest numbers, the UKGC warned operators about potential changes in customer behaviour following the relaxation of much of the UK’s Covid-19 restrictions.
“We continue to expect extra vigilance from operators as consumers are impacted in different ways by the circumstances,” the UKGC said.
Many people will still feel vulnerable as a result of the length of the pandemic period and further uncertainty about their personal or financial circumstances,” the UK regulator added.
