
Swedish market posts annual revenue rise of 10% for Q2 2021
Licensed operators generate SEK6.5bn in revenue as online market continues to grow


Sweden’s licensed gambling market generated SEK6.5bn in revenue during the second quarter of 2021.
The figure represents a 10% year-on-year increase from Q2 2020 and a slight increase on the SEK6.2bn in revenue generated during Q1 of this year.
Of the SEK6.5bn revenue total, SEK4.1bn was derived from online casino and betting operations.
Elsewhere, state lottery and slot machine games represented SEK1.4bn of the total quarterly revenue, while revenue from games for public benefit purposes, such as the national lottery, amounted to SEK939m.
Casino Cosmopol, Sweden’s only land-based casino, posted zero revenue due to Covid-19 restrictions impacting operations, with the vertical failing to return any revenue since Q1 of 2020.
Other land-based commercial gaming, such as restaurant casinos, amounted to just SEK5m for the period.
A total of 100 companies had active gambling licences in Sweden as of June this year, while 70 were licensed for betting and commercial online gaming.
By the end of Q2 2021, there were almost 64,000 individuals who had been suspended from gambling in Sweden via the self-exclusion platform Spelpaus.
