Swedish GGR rises 3% YoY in Q4 2022
Statistics from the regulator also reveal that GGR for full-year 2022 rose by 5% with strong growth in online gambling

The Swedish gambling market returned a 3.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for Q4 2022.
According to the latest report by the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), GGR for the quarter was SEK7.2bn (£558.8m), up from the SEK7.02bn recorded in 2021.
There were GGR increases across all but two verticals in Sweden, with the state-owned Casino Cosmopol and land-based commercial gaming seeing minor decreases in the quarter.
The main growth area in the Scandinavian market was online gambling which rose from SEK4.19bn to SEK4.39bn.
Elsewhere, the state lottery and slot games increased slightly, with GGR rising from SEK1.69bn to SEK1.694bn.
Casino Cosmopol GGR fell from SEK144m to SEK139m, while land-based commercial gaming, such as restaurant casinos, dropped from SEK63m in 2021 to SEK53m in 2022.
Public and national lotteries’ GGR rose 4% YoY from SEK889m to SEK927m.
New data from the SGA also revealed that 85,000 Swedes signed up for the country’s self-exclusion system Spelpaus, representing a 5% increase from Q3 2022.
The SGA revealed that GGR for full-year 2022 rose by 5% to SEK27.4bn.
The data showed that the online sector grew 6% to SEK1.7bn.
The regulator stated the figures achieved in 2022 represented the normalisation of the sector as it was the first full year not to be hampered by the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.
