Swedish Gambling Authority put under the microscope by National Audit Office
Swedish regulator to be studied by the National Audit Office to determine its effectiveness following re-regulation of market

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) is being reviewed by the country’s National Audit Office to determine its effectiveness as a regulator.
The examination comes following 1 July, when the Swedish regulator was handed new powers and regulations concerning B2B licences came into effect.
The National Audit Office did not provide a timeline on the audit, or when its findings would eventually be published.
The review will examine the effectiveness of the SGA in relation to the state budget, implementation of new policy and the commitment to align to the goals of the state.
Touching on its decision to launch a review, the National Audit Office stated: “The starting point of the reviews is to ensure that the state, with regard to general societal interests, receives an effective exchange of its efforts.
“The Swedish Gambling Authority’s supervision is crucial for to be achieved.
“At the same time, the Authority’s conditions for carrying out supervision have changed due to the re-regulation of the gaming market.
“The National Audit Office intends to review whether the Authority’s supervision of the gambling market is effective.”
Elsewhere, the SGA is facing a challenge from payments supplier Zimpler over a potential fine relating to facilitating payments for unlicensed firms.
