Spanish regulator grants operators renewed three-year licences
Betfair, 888, Gamesys and William Hill among first to receive new permits from DGOJ

Spanish regulator DGOJ has awarded a slew of new licences to operators as their initial 10-year certificates were set to expire this year after a decade of the country’s regulated online gambling market.
Operators on the receiving end of the new three-year licence include Betfair, 888, Gamesys Group, William Hill, RFranco and Paf.
Seeking to avoid a situation whereby operators are live in the country without a valid licence, the DGOJ has requested applicants submit renewal paperwork at least four months in advance of the expiration date.
Operators with licences for multiple verticals can submit a single extension application digitally to the DGOJ.
Those renewing must have their application signed by a legal representative and must provide evidence of compliance throughout the 10-year term of the previous licence, while all taxes must have been paid.
Supporting evidence for the payment of licence fees must also be provided to the regulator. These fees include a €38,000 technical reporting fee, a €2,500 registration fee for each licence and a separate €10,000 cost for the successful award of each licence.
Spain’s licensed operators generated total gross gambling revenue of €850m during 2020, up 13.7% annually.
