Casino represents largest vertical at €99.9m as slots and live roulette revenue grows

Spain’s online gross gambling revenue (GGR) increased 3.4% year-on-year (YoY) for Q2 2021 but fell 10% compared with Q1 2021, according to the latest data from Spanish regulator DGOJ.
GGR for the quarter amounted to €215.96m (GBP), with the country’s casino segment accounting for the largest proportion of total revenue.
Casino GGR totalled €99.9m in Q2 2021, representing 46.3% of total Spanish GGR.
In fact, casino GGR leapt 6.7% YoY, with slot and live roulette titles reporting the largest increases of 12% and 11.9%, respectively.
Sports betting was the second largest segment, with its €92m in GGR translating to a 45.6% share of total GGR.
Similarly to casino GGR, sports betting revenue also increased YoY by 35.9%.
Elsewhere, poker (€20.3m) was the third largest vertical in terms of GGR as it took a 9.4% share of the total while bingo (€3.3m) and contests (€500,000) made up the rest of the total.
Marketing spend in the Iberian nation by online operators amounted to €128.4m, up from the €40.9m spent in Q2 2021. This large increase follows the advertising restrictions placed on the market in Spain at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.
The monthly average number of active customer accounts in Q2 2021 amounted to 991,196, representing a 54.2% YoY increase in active accounts.
There was also a 67.6% YoY increase in the monthly average of new game accounts at 231,167.
The DGOJ noted that in Q2 2021 there were 80 licensed operators in the country.
