
Spanish gross gaming revenue leaps 24.8% in Q4 2020
Marketing spend in the country also continues to rise ahead of impending blanket advertising ban


Spanish market online gambling revenue (GGR) leapt 24.8% year-on-year (YoY) for Q4 2020 to €231.3m, according to the latest figures from the country’s gambling regulator (DGOJ).
The DGOJ noted sports betting accounted for 44.77% of total GGR for the period at €103.5m, while online casino represented 42.3% at €97.8m.
In terms of sports betting, the DGOJ revealed both pre-match and in-play bets had increased in volume quarter-on-quarter by 18.8% and 30.1%, respectively.
In online casino, live roulette and slots game both recorded double-digit growth by 41.63% and 11.18% respectively.
The remaining GGR in the fourth quarter was made up by poker, which increased by 10.8% annually to €24.9m, and bingo, following a 1.7% rise to €3.9m. Contests increased by 0.5% to €1.1m.
Elsewhere, marketing spend jumped 29.5% YoY to €148.8m ahead of the country’s impending advertising blackout, which was sanctioned by Minster of Consumer Affairs Alberto Garzón.
The monthly average of active accounts also increased YoY by 8.1% to 1,051,139.
