
Spanish Q2 GGR rises 55% against solid sports betting performance
Sports betting revenue jumps 119% year on year while new player accounts dropped by 3% in Iberian market


Total Spanish gross gambling revenue (GGR) rose 55.1% year on year (YoY) in Q2 2023, backed by a strong jump in sports betting revenue.
The data provided by Spain’s regulator, the Director General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), showed GGR for the second quarter amounted to €312.6m (£270.4m).
Breaking down GGR by vertical, sports betting revenue continued its steady growth, amounting to €133.3m, representing a massive 118.9% YoY increase. The figure also represents a 2.1% increase on the vertical’s Q1 return of €130.6m.
Casino accounted for €149.9m of total GGR, rising by 27.9% YoY, and a slight increase on the €143.4m posted in Q1 2023.
Bingo saw a 5.5% YoY increase to €3.5m while poker reported a rise of 27.6% YoY, reaching €25.8m. However, poker GGR was down 5.8% compared to the first quarter of the year.
The monthly average active player accounts increased 11.4% YoY to 1.1 million while new monthly account registrations fell by 3% YoY to 102,804.
The data provided by the DGOJ also showed operator marketing expenditure in Q2 2023.
Overall marketing expenditure increased by 3% YoY to €96.6m, driven by a 56.2% increase on affiliate spending.
