Sky Betting & Gaming head of safer gambling steps down
Ben Wright leaves Flutter-owned operator after almost 15 years of services across trading and RG desks

Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) head of safer gambling Ben Wright has left the Leeds-based bookmaker after almost 15 years.
Wright, a veteran of the SBG trading division, has stepped down from his position with the Flutter Entertainment-owned operator after almost four years.
Wright originally joined SBG in January 2008 from William Hill as a US sports product manager.
In November 2011, he was promoted to sports desk manager before becoming sports live manager in October 2013.
Wright was named head of sports trading in June 2015, before being promoted to head of international trading and sports product where he oversaw and developed trading strategy for SBG’s new markets.
In February 2018, Wright was promoted once again to become head of trading, commercial and international.
Finally, in January 2019, he switched from the trading team to head up SBG’s safe gambling division.
In this role, he was responsible for defining and delivering SBG’s safer gambling strategy.
Wright’s departure follows that of sports managing director Steven Monaghan, who stepped down after almost eight years last month.
Elsewhere, Flutter Entertainment has begun a consultation process on as many as 200 voluntary staff redundancies across its UK & Ireland business, EGR has learned.
The layoffs come as part of measures taken by the Dublin-headquartered operator to improve efficiency across the SBG business via further integration into the wider Flutter group.
