Sky Bet hones safer gambling strategy with Twitter chat bot
Leeds-headquartered operator launches new educational tool on its dedicated responsible gambling Twitter account

Sky Betting & Gaming (SBG) has begun trialling a new Twitter chat bot designed to educate users on safer gambling and the operator’s ‘Simple Tools’.
The social media tool was launched last week on the company’s dedicated responsible gambling Twitter account @SkyBetRG, as part of SBG’s ongoing multi-million pound safer gambling strategy.
The bot interacts with users via a chat interface in direct messaging, with prompts to put controls such as deposit limits in place.
The bot also pushed out educational content on safer gambling in the Twitter feed.
We’ve launched a new Twitter Bot to teach you about our #SimpleTools, which can help you gamble responsibly.

“Sky Bet became synonymous with Twitter since it launched the industry-first ‘Request-A-Bet’ through the social media platform, allowing customers to get real-time odds from traders on personalised bets,” a spokesperson for SBG said.
“Twitter bots are a great way for people to self-serve safer gambling content with a few clicks, with more detailed information and services available the further into the journey a person chooses to progress,” the spokesperson added.
“This is another way to access this information outside of an independent search for the Sky Bet website.”

However, the launch of the bot had some initial issues which the operator said it was in the process of fixing. “We did have an early teething issue on launch of the bot for users taking unprompted actions outside of the expected user journeys, which we are quickly remedying with Twitter,” the SBG spokesperson said.
“The Twitter bot started sending an automated response to people typing freehand, which led to some confusing responses, therefore we suspended the bot for a short time and have agreed to put in a new stock response, the bot will be live again soon.”
The debut of the Twitter bot comes after SBG late last year kicked off a new safer gambling initiative called ‘Three Simple Tools’, featuring the launch of a new advertising campaign designed to promote the firm’s responsible gambling tools – deposit limits, cool-off periods and profit and loss.
SBG won the award for Socially Responsible Operator at last year’s EGR Operator Awards.
