BGC's single customer view trial moves to second stage
Holistic scheme takes next steps in development as ICO says customer data to be used in a “proportionate and appropriate way”

The development of the single customer view (SCV) scheme is set to enter its second phase as UK operators look to establish a cross-industry data-sharing hub.
After giving the green light for the project in October 2021, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has confirmed the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has entered the next stage of the SCV regulatory sandbox.
This stage will see the trialling period of the SCV ramped up ahead of a potential rollout of the scheme in the future.
As the largest UK firms, BGC members Entain, William Hill, 888, Gamesys, bet365 and Flutter have agreed to trial a solution for the sharing of data sets.
The idea is that the proposed mechanism will allow data to be compliantly shared on customers who have multiple accounts with different operators and, therefore, companies can identify and manage gambling-related harm.
In February, self-exclusion platform GAMSTOP was chosen to run the initial trial of the SCV by the BGC.
The ICO said: “The aim of the trial is to facilitate fast, proactive intervention and to prevent incidents of problem gambling.
“BGC and participating operators are committed to ensuring the personal data of customers is used in a proportionate and appropriate way to identify harm and welcomes the opportunity to explore these issues with the expert steer of the ICO.”
The UKGC said: “We will maintain regular engagement with the BGC and the ICO as this next phase progresses.
“We are keen to see how the industry proposes to meet the challenge we set in 2020 of achieving a reduction in gambling-related harms by taking a holistic view of customer activity across operators.
“We now look forward to the industry moving swiftly to pilot solutions and then working with them to evaluate the approach they have developed.”
