Responsible gambling advocacy veteran joins Underdog Fantasy
Brianne Doura-Schawohl links up with DFS operator in consultant role to bolster RG adoption
Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) operator Underdog Fantasy has recruited responsible gambling (RG) advocate and government relations veteran Brianne Doura-Schawohl as a consultant to advise on RG-related issues.
Doura-Schawohl will guide core concepts for Underdog including the development of internal policies, creating and executing strategic plans to aid understanding of problem gambling and introducing the business to key RG stakeholders in US states.
With more than a decade of experience in advocacy, public policy government and communications, Doura-Schawohl runs her own consulting firm, Doura-Schawohl Consulting LLC.
She also previously served as VP of US Policy and Strategic Development for EPIC Risk Management and has worked as a legislative director for the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).
Underdog is a member of the National Council on Problem Gambling and counts responsible gambling charity and gambling participation blocking software provider BetBlocker among its partners.
BetBlocker software is provided for free to Underdog players, along with the DFS operator’s other tools to prevent problem gambling. It also offers parental control options to allow parents to restrict gambling content on shared devices.
Underdog president and chairman Jeremy Levine welcomed the appointment of Doura-Schawohl, citing the need to push forward on RG objectives.
“A guiding principle of Underdog is to deliver the necessary resources and guidance to our community to ensure a responsible fantasy sports experience,” Levine said.
“Collaborating with a well-respected industry leader of Brianne’s standing will strengthen our efforts as we accelerate our future roadmap,” he added.
Levine’s comments were echoed by Doura-Schawohl, who said she was thrilled to assist Underdog in its efforts.
