René Jansen to step down as KSA chair in 2024
Netherlands Gaming Authority begins search for replacement as regulatory chief announces his retirement

The Netherlands Gaming Authority (KSA) has confirmed chairman René Jansen will retire from 1 July 2024 after more than five years in the role.
Jansen, who has occupied the post since October 2018, did not seek an extension of his current term as chair due to reaching retirement age at the end of 2023.
Jansen’s six-year term was due to expire on 1 October 2024.
The regulatory authority has already begun a search for his replacement, posting a job advertisement on its website. Jansen’s successor will be appointed by the Dutch Minister for Legal Protection for a period of six years.
In his capacity as chairman of the KSA, René Jansen has overseen the expansion of the Dutch gambling market to include online gambling, which launched in October 2021, as well as playing a pivotal role in developing and shaping policies used by the European regulator.
He recently sat down with EGR for an exclusive interview when the Dutch market reached its two-year anniversary of going live.
In a statement released with the news of his departure, Jansen highlighted the road ahead for his replacement as chair.
“In recent years, I have committed myself to the KSA’s mission of safe play with great energy and pleasure. There are many great challenges for the new chairman,” Jansen said.
“The KSA has an important role as a supervisor and enforcer in the various gaming markets. This management position is challenging, requires creativity, innovation and decisiveness, but above all has great social value,” he added.
In the job advertisement, the KSA outlined the qualities required in a replacement.
“The KSA is a supervisory authority with public visibility. This requires a chairman with a strong personality, who acts as a figurehead to the outside world and can represent the authority with conviction, both nationally and internationally,” the advert states.
“The chairman is expected to act effectively in terms of communication, both within the organisation itself and outwardly towards politicians, media, other regulators (national and international), consumers and the business community,” it continues.
The recruitment process will be undertaken by the KSA’s General Administrative Service, with the window for applications open until 12 November. The new chairman will be paid a salary of between €108,288 and €141,854.
