Rei do Pitaco becomes latest industry firm to sign up to UN Global Compact
Brazilian operator joins the likes of Bally’s and Tipico in committing to 10 principles laid out by intergovernmental body
Brazilian daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator Rei do Pitaco has become the latest igaming company to sign up to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
The operator, which penned a supply agreement with Kambi to launch sports betting in Brazil last year, will now commit to the UN Global Compact’s 10 principles.
Those principles reach across human rights, labour rights, the environment and anti-corruption.
The scheme was launched in 2000 and currently has more than 16,000 businesses across the globe signed up.
As part of its commitment to the compact, Rei do Pitaco will submit an annual report of its progress against the 10 principles.
The company will be required to submit its next communication on progress (COP) by 30 June 2024.
The Brazilian firm joins Betsson and MeridianBet Group in signing up for the compact in 2023.
Other igaming businesses that have already committed to the UNGC include Bally’s, Veikkaus, IGT, Catena Media and Tipico.
In a letter to UN secretary-general António Guterres, Rei do Pitaco CEO Mateus Carvalho Dantas laid out his commitment to the goals.
He wrote: “We are committed to making the Global Compact and its 10 principles part of our company’s strategy, culture and day-to-day operations and to engaging in cooperative projects that advance the broader development goals of the United Nations, in particular the sustainable development goals.
“We support public accountability and transparency and therefore commit to submitting a progress report within one year of joining the UN Global Compact and then annually in accordance with Global Compact policy,” he added.
Taking to LinkedIn, Rafael Marchetti Marcondes, Rei do Pitaco chief legal officer, said: “Our work must go beyond the obvious, it must evaluate its impact on the environment and how we can generate positive results for everyone around us.
“[I’m] happy to participate in this project and to be in a company that supports initiatives that value society, the environment and governance,” he added.
