Poll: Will Tinder-style betting take off?
This week we ask if 'swipe-to-bet' functionality is a gimmick or a natural evolution of mobile betting

Last week ex-William Hill and 888 employees, Adam Kalmanson and Adam Wilson, delivered some real innovation to the egaming space with the launch of a new ‘swipe-to-bet’ mobile sportsbook.
Bookee mimics popular dating app Tinder by offering customers a selection of small-stake personalised bet suggestions, such as ‘Aguero to score first and City win 2-1’, which customers can swipe left to discard or right to accept.
The app also borrows from transportation app Uber by enabling customers to split a bet with a friend.
The founders said they invented Bookee because they were frustrated about the slow moving pace of the betting industry.
“Where other betting sites have adapted a 100 year-old infrastructure to retro-fit the smartphone revolution, the Bookee app is specifically designed for mobile use only,”Kalmanson said.
However it remains to be seen whether the duo have really stolen a march on the rest of the industry with regards to the future of betting.
Punters may balk at the lack of control they are given, with only the ability to accept or reject a bet rather than create it themselves.
Likewise Bookee has a staking limit of å£30, so will need to attract a lot of volume to turn a good profit, which could be tricky given the company’s start-up nature and relatively limited marketing budget.
With that in mind, we want to know your thoughts on swipe-to-bet functionality. Is it another gimmick that will quickly fade or could it mark the next development of mobile-first recreational betting, with bigger operators taking the concept and running with it?
