Poll: Are suppliers responsible for policing regulated markets?
Italy's gambling regulator has called on providers to stop supplying unlicensed operators, but are AAMS on the wrong tack?
Italy’s tough stance on online gaming providers which supply games to unlicensed operators has triggered a new debate on regulated market provision.
Italian gambling authority Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (AAMS) has threatened new regulatory measures against providers supplying unlicensed operators with games with a view to tackling the nation’s black market.
AAMS head of remote gambling Francesco Rodano said that new regulation could be considered unless suppliers prevent their B2C customers from targeting the Italian market, and estimates that more than half of the Italian online casino market to comprise of unregulated operators.
But is it right for suppliers to bear the brunt of efforts to quell the black market in Italy? Or should AAMS spend more efforts on targeting the black market operators or working with ISPs on blocking and enforcement measures.
In this week’s poll, we ask if it’s reasonable for regulatory authorities to hold suppliers accountable for their customers’ actions or if AAMS should be focusing more on the operators themselves.
