Poll results: UK bookies should be forced to make minimum bet guarantees
67% of voters agree with the Horseracing Bettors Forum’s call for bookies to make a litany of improvements

The majority of EGR readers believe bookies should be forced to make minimum bet commitments.
The suggestion was made by the Horseracing Bettors Forum (HBF) earlier this week in its latest charter that also included a number of other improvements such as clearer Ts&Cs and fewer account restrictions.
And 67% of poll voters agreed with the HBF’s suggestion that bookies should lay to lose at least £500 per selection from 8am on the day of race on all Listed, Graded and Group races on flat and over jumps, plus class 1, 2 and 3 handicaps.
The HBF said the new charter would promote “healthy relationships between bookmakers and customers and thereby increase interest in betting on the sport of horseracing”.
However, 33% of readers think bookmakers already give punters enough advantages through certain offers and promotions like Best Odds Guaranteed.
The RGA has said it would not be endorsing the HBF’s latest charter as it believes licensing conditions already cover the key areas discussed.
